What happens when I don’t have a routine?

Often, we can be scatterbrained, unorganized, all over the place in our heads and the world around us, especially during the holiday season. Can you relate? I sure can. I hate when I’m in that boat, feeling like I am being sucked up by a cyclone. This mainly happens to me when I cut my morning routine out of my daily life for one reason or another.

When this happens, it doesn’t take long before I feel lots of regret from doing so. I can get pretty upset with myself as I experience the consequence of leaving myself behind. Not taking that precious time to myself, getting my mind clear and my energy levels up, and being ready to tackle my day.

Yes, that is what a routine does for me and I love it. It makes me happy and gives me great feelings of satisfaction. I can see the world around me clearly and that gives me the positive energy I thrive on.

Where do you stand when it comes to a routine? Do you take care of yourself, your mental self?

Routine types;

  • Are you a creature of habit that enjoys a routine?
  • Are you someone that feels disorganized, scattered, unfocused, and in need of a routine?
  • Are you someone that has never had a routine and really doesn’t understand what the point of a routine might be?
  • Or are you someone that lost their routine and is struggling to get back into one

Whichever one you may be this will be a good blog for you.

Where am I without my 1 simple routine?

If you have been following my blogs and FB Live’s you know that thanks to losing my 1 simple routine during our 10-week journey have given me a run for my money.

  • I gained weight
  • Became un-motivated
  • Craving all the wrong foods
  • Slacked with my daily exercise routine
  • Stopped meditating
  • And even though I was living the life of my dreams I was unhappy at times.

I am such a creature of habit and when I get outside of my environment things sometimes fall apart. Being on the road for 10 weeks put me into a new environment every three to five days, and it threw me and my 1 simple routine off, every time.

I lost the thing that gave me clarity, motivation, clarity, the thing that got me ready to tackle my day.

I gained weight because, at times the nutritious foods I was used to having in my diet weren’t available, we were on a working vacation, so I thought treating myself more than every so often was ok. I also gained weight because I didn’t exercise as regularly as I used to. The great hikes we did just weren’t enough to keep me in the shape I wanted to be in.

I became unmotivated because I didn’t get my regular exercises in as I was used to in Connecticut where I had my own machines available with a dedicated workout schedule. Once we hit the road it was pretty much nonexistent. It was not that I didn’t know what to do or how to exercise without my machines, it was the lack of what I was used to, and my brain needed to get retrained to adjust. So instead of exercising, I came up with excuses.

I didn’t know that this would happen, even though I knew that it takes much accountability to keep moving forward and reaching your goals. I envisioned myself working out and running, but in the end, there was more of the envisioning than the doing.

This happens to so many of us.

I started craving all the foods I shouldn’t, the sugary treats, ice-cream, chocolate…I did not follow my own advice.

The vicious cycle started. It was like a domino reaction, one thing led to another, and because of not eating right, I was craving more sweets, simple carbs, with lacking exercise soon thereafter I stopped meditating, which in the end made me frustrated with myself and with that I became unhappy even though I was living the life of my dreams. Actually, I was and still am kind of am pretty frustrated with myself.

It took me a long time to find the routine that truly worked for me, and within a short amount of time it was lost, quicker than I could have ever imagined.

My struggles to find a new routine are real, especially since I am in a completely new environment and lifestyle after finishing our trip settling down in Colorado. Honestly, it was so much easier to fall out of my routine than to get back into it.

The loss of my routine didn’t just set me back from my physical and psychological wellbeing but also from my career, I put the brakes on and set myself back by not completing certain tasks such as finishing my 28 days of hidden sugar online class. But it’s coming together now, thank goodness as I am finding my groove again.

This can happen to anyone through life’s little interruptions no matter if they were planned or unplanned, that’s why I was sharing this with you today.

You see routines are the secret sauce behind the success of many people and celebrities such as Tony Robbins, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Lebron James and so many more.

What is the routine? how it make a difference in your day?

A routine can be as short as 5-10 minutes or extended 30 minutes to 2 hours.

It can be a:

  • Morning routine
  • Bedtime Routine
  • Evening Routine
  • Lunch Routine

It can consist of:

  • exercise,
  • meditation,
  • journaling,
  • reading,
  • listening to music,
  • walking your pet,
  • or simply as much as a coffee dance like Jonathan Van Ness, who likes to show off every morning while pouring his coffee on his Instagram story.

Whatever may bring you clarity, peace, motivation, good vibes, and positive energy.

For me, it has always been exercise and meditation. I am a completely different person when I have a clear and motivated mind.

My routine has been a large part of conquering my gluten sensitivity related digestive issues and partly the reason why I can live my life to the fullest today. I would love for you to be able to do the same.

I am in the process now of creating a routine that will work for my new lifestyle, now that we have settled in Colorado.

I have to admit it has been difficult for me to get back into it as my mind is still set on my old routine back in Ct, so needless to say it’s been a bit of a slow process. That’s ok though as life is full of new and exciting things and these things will be a part of my new part of my days ahead. I just have to figure out how they will fit into my days.

All of that is ok because life is full of lessons and everything we have done in the past three months has been a trial run to us anyway and I can say that I have learned from my experiences and now know what and how to apply the next time life’s little interruptions come into my life.

I will;

  • stand my ground so nothing comes before my routine. No matter what, I will stick with it.
  • I can abbreviate my routine if necessary, as long as I keep it, that’s ok.
  • block out a certain time frame for my routine and stick with that time frame.
  • know that I always come first, I need my time and deserve to have this time to myself, when I take care of myself, I am much better at taking care of others.
  • know that my health, mood, motivation, work, family, and I depend on my routine, as it brings me peace, clarity, happiness, success, and brings out the best in me.

If you are someone like me and have lost your routine or are someone that is just starting a routine for the first time, these are my tips to you, so you can find the right routine for you;

Let’s get your 1 simple routine back (let’s start from the beginning not where we left off)

  • Start out slow, choose one thing that will bring you clarity
  • Then set a time for yourself when you can implement this one thing
  • Then just start, make that commitment, even if everything tells you not to. (With me it was getting out of bed and actually starting my routine)
  • Add other things to your routine one thing at a time and in slow increments
  • Once you have accomplished your routine, stick with it, don’t let anything get in the way.

1 simple routine can help you with getting that whirlwind out of you and not get swallowed by it, it can even help you keep your head on straight during the holiday crazy rush.

This is it for today, I promise you, once you give yourself time every day, life can change in positive ways you may have never expected it to. It is amazing what a small thing such as a routine can do.

I am so happy for you to stop by, I hope you will bring 1 simple routine to your days and gain great benefits from having a routine, just like I do.
