Don’t you just love this time of year, when all the berries are coming into the season? I love going to farm stands, farmers markets and to buy freshly picked berries. If I have enough time on my hands, I love to go and pick them myself as well. My absolute favorite berries to pick are strawberries and blueberries. I just love their sweetness. I don’t believe that there is a better taste than from sun-kissed strawberries or blueberries.

Have you ever gone berry picking and while you were picking you snagged one of the warm sun-kissed berries and put it into your mouth? The sweetness and juiciness just give your taste buds a pool party in your mouth. Your receptor sites in your brain feel like dancing to the music you are playing to yourself in your head. The world seems at peace, and your life just perfect, you forget about everything that could possibly stress you. For once you are living in the moment and nothing else matters at that time. For me being nurtured through nature is where I am the happiest. Even though strawberries are out of season now, blueberries are in, and my joyful sun-kissed party of goodness continues, one berry at the time.

It’s funny as my fiancé has made me aware of the fact that when it comes to good nutritious foods, the whole me just lights up and my excitement is like no other. I never realized this until he pointed it out to me. That just shows that a lot of times we do things or react to things so naturally and it is so normal to us that we don’t even notice it, while at the same time it is so obvious to others around us.

I call myself a sun baby, and I believe the reason why I call myself that is not necessarily because I sit in the sun. As a matter of fact, I prefer shade, especially now that I am getting older. I love seeing the sunshine and everything that comes with it when it comes to nutrition, the nourishing berries, fruits, and vegetables the sun blesses so much with its nutrients and helps them grow for me to eat.

Blueberries and strawberries have great benefits when it comes to health benefits. Both berries have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They both are great sources of Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6. They both have wonderful benefits for brain health, help regulate blood sugar, support heart health can help with stabilization of cholesterol, and support eye health, claims Tina M. Rattan, DNM in her book “Foods at a Glance”.

I know they make me happy; I call them my candy with benefits. Of course, as I always recommend to anyone to buy your fruits and vegetables organic, I recommend the same for these berries. Berries, in general, tend to have some of the highest pesticide counts. Purchasing them from a farm stand I find is the best way of purchase. Yeah, they are a tad pricier than self-picked but honestly, I don’t have much time to go and pick my berries all too often :(. I like to ask the people at the farm stand or farmers market when I am unfamiliar with them if the berries have been sprayed, to make sure I get the highest quality fruit. Many farms don’t spray their berries but are not certified organic. Those are the farms that get most of my support as organic can be more expensive. In-store bought berries I always by organic I don’t trust the other sources do not use pesticides. Therefore, I never make an acception. So, this time of year farm fresh or organic are my recommendation. Living in the country this is an easy task, and I am so blessed to have these sources so close to my home. If you don’t live near farm fresh sources, stick with the organic, the nutritious value is completely worth the price.

I highly believe, to invest in the health of my body is the most precious value I could ever invest in. So, go out and get sun-kissed by mother nature today. Appreciate and value the amazing foods she gives you, live in the moment and take it all in. Bring a slice of peace to your day. It gets crazy out there in the real world, where stress, sadness, heartbreak and many other negative emotions and influences can make you forget about the little things in life that bring you peace and joy, that put a smile on your face. You are worth it!
